In a press release dated May 17, the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) has announced modifications to RD 477/2021 regarding incentive programs for self-consumption and storage systems with renewable energies, and for systems renewable thermal energy in homes and in different sectors of the economy.

Among the changes that affect the biomass sector, the inclusion of wood-fired heating equipment among the eligible systems in the residential area stands out, provided that they meet certain requirements:

The equipment must have a closed front part, the wood must have a maximum humidity of 20% (property class M20 as established in the UNE-EN-ISO 17225-5 standard) and the installations must be carried out in municipalities with less than 50.000 inhabitants, which are not provincial capitals.

Another of the noteworthy changes is the greater support provided to the energy services company (ESCO) model to facilitate installations to individuals or other companies that do not have the capacity to undertake the investment.

We remind you that local heating devices or boilers of less than 1 MW that use biomass they must certify that they comply with the Ecodesign regulations (Regulations (EU) 2015/1185 and 2015/1189) and that the fuel used has a certificate issued by an accredited independent entity regarding compliance with class A1 as established in the UNE-EN-ISO 17225, UNE 164003 standards. or UNE 164004.

Currently, manufacturers and distributors of biomass combustion equipment have extensive catalogs of boilers and stoves that comply with the Ecodesign regulation without problems and, on the other hand, the Spanish and European markets have quality seals to certify biofuels as ENplus® for domestic pellets or BIOmasud®, specific for Mediterranean biofuels, including firewood.

The aid that can be accessed through this line for the entire Spanish territory when buying a pellet or wood stove, fireplace or boiler is €350 per kW of power with a maximum of €4.200 for stoves and fireplaces and €3.500 for boilers.
