The bidding budget is 3.094.305 euros and the financing has been made from the Feder 2014-2020 Operational Program

The Junta de Castilla y León, through Somacyl, has tendered the drafting of the construction project and execution of the works for the implementation of thermal energy accumulation systems for the Ponferrada heat network with a budget of 3.094.305 euros and a total execution period of ten months, the first being for the drafting of the project. The action is financed by the Feder Operational Program 2014-2020, a React-UE initiative.

The objective of the action is the installation of a thermal energy system in the form of hot water, with a tank with a volume of 3.500 cubic meters. The thermal storage capacity of the system is 79.000 useful kWh, while the additional annual capacity to replace fossil energy with thermal renewable energy is 1,53 ktoe/year. Finally, the annual reduction of CO2 emissions is 5.212 tons per year, according to the data provided by the Board.

With the incorporation of these systems, renewable energy plants are capable of generating thermal energy at night that accumulates to be able to be consumed during daylight hours, in which buildings demand more heat. Therefore, many more buildings can receive green energy from the grid without the need to install more biomass boilers at the plant, simply by increasing the operating hours of existing boilers.
