Since the first edition of Expobiomasa, in 2006, pellet consumption in Europe in the residential sector has gone from 3 more than 18 million tons. In this same period, the consumption of domestic pellets in Spain has increased to the 700.000 tons per year that were consumed in 2020. And the forecasts suggest that it will exceed 800.000 tons in 2023.

Spanish producers guarantee the supply and increase production in a rhythmic way. Spain's productive capacity far exceeds consumption, which allows it to supply the national market and export to other European countries.

La ENplus certification of the pellet has consolidated as quality reference among consumers worldwide. 38 Spanish manufacturers have the certificate in force and work daily to maintain the required parameters, while increasing the levels of control and inspection in order to guarantee quality.

Jorge Morales de Labra in the SEXTA clarifies in this video how much the heating cost has risen this year according to the type of fuel used. The biomass comes out very well stop ... Watch video
The main solid biofuels, obtained from biomass, are pellets, wood chips and olive stones. They are also other biofuels-less abundant-like the husks of nuts; or less homogenous and technified, such as firewood. But all of them, equally important.
The energy generated with wood chips and pellets, olive stone and other biomass allows to stop importing to Spaniards the equivalent of more than 1,2 million tons of oil (about 10 million barrels of oil). In addition, it reduces the emissions of greenhouse gases caused by the use of fossil fuels such as diesel or natural gas.
How much electricity do pellet stoves consume? There are stoves that do not consume electricity and even generate the electricity necessary for small external devices such as mobiles. Within the components of a pellet stove there are usually several electronic elements: fans, ignition system, burner supply or combustion control, which help in a decisive way to make it as efficient as possible. They also make its use easier and more comfortable.
Biomass heating generates savings of up to 66% compared to diesel. Of the 1.340 euros on average that are spent annually in each home in Castilla y León to meet the general costs of energy, the 47% is destined to produce heat; one 19%, to sanitary hot water; and the rest, to electricity.
To make a quick personal calculation: as the saving is in fuel it is proportional to the meters of the house. Jesús lives in Valladolid with his wife and two children. It has a well-insulated 100m² house. Every year it consumes 16.000 kWh of energy for heating, similar to what it consumes in any city in central Spain. Jesus analyzed what it costs as a consumer (with taxes) heating and hot water each year with different types of energy.
In Spain, 420.000 annual tons are produced, which provide 1.880,6 GWh (162.120 tep). In Spain, which has the largest area of the world dedicated to olive cultivation (more than 2,6 million hectares), 6,2 millions of tons of olives are produced annually, providing 420.000 tons of bone, of which 323.500 tons are sold; the rest is consumed in the own mills and extractors as a source of heat for their processes.

The stability of biomass prices, in clear contrast to the progressive increase in the cost of heating oil, which has risen above 35% in the last two years, has led to a significant increase in the savings that the use of biomass as a heating fuel, which at the moment can be up to 66% compared to diesel costs.
